Kristina From Duvemala
The Cast
From left: Benny Andersson (Music), Lars Rudolfsson (Book),
Björn Ulvaeus (Lyrics), Peter Jöback (Robert), Helen Sjöholm
(Kristina), Åsa Bergh (Ulrika) and Anders Ekborg (Karl Oskar).
This synopsis was written by Jason Swann from the USA, based on the four Emigrant novels written by Vilhelm Moberg,
on which Kristina is based. It was translated from the English
version by Naomi Saito.
The original purpose of this synopsis was to
fill in blanks that are not included in the CD booklet for
the Swedish recording of Kristina from Duvemala. The musical version is slightly different to the
books, and the order of some of the events has been changed.
This synopsis, however, is to help the listener understand
the musical, so it is presented in the musical order of
events.
The main characters in the books is Karl Oskar, Kristina's husband, unlike the musical where Kristina is the main character. The books begin with a history
of Korpamoen and end with Karl Oskar's death in the 1890's,
some thirty years after Kristina's death in 1862. Each group of text explains what happens before and
during the song listed after the text.
I would like to thank Jason for giving me permission to use his synopsis, and to Naomi for translating this
synopsis into Japanese. You did a great job.
